Prescription refills in Singapore: what to do before you run out

Need more regular medicine? Understand HealthHub medication refills, repeat prescriptions, doctor review and teleconsult.sg's published refill fees.

Start by checking whether you still have uncollected medicine on a valid prescription or need a new prescription approved. HealthHub treats a medication refill and a repeat-prescription request differently. The right route depends on your existing prescription, participating healthcare institution and whether the doctor needs to review you.

At teleconsult.sg, a refill without consultation is listed at S$5 and is subject to the doctor's approval. If a consultation is needed, the standard GP fee is S$15 nett. Medication and delivery are separate. Do not assume a refill request guarantees supply or that every medicine can be renewed online.

Medication refill or repeat prescription: which do you need?

HealthHub distinguishes a refill of an existing valid prescription with an uncollected balance from a request to repeat a prescription. A repeat request may be relevant when the prescription has expired or your supply will not last until the next appointment; the clinic routes it for the doctor’s approval.

How to request a medication refill on HealthHub

For participating public institutions, sign in to HealthHub and open Medication refill. Choose the institution that issued the prescription, check the available balance and select the medicine and refill option. Then choose an available collection or delivery arrangement, check your details and submit.

The request goes to the issuing institution. HealthHub advises having at least two weeks of medicine before requesting delivery. Available dates and terms depend on that institution, so check them before relying on the order.

When might an online doctor need to review you?

Your usual doctor is a useful starting point because they know the existing treatment plan. HealthHub notes that video care has limits: an examination or tests may be needed, and medicines are prescribed only when clinically appropriate.

An old prescription helps explain your history. It does not establish that another supply, a different strength or a requested medicine will be appropriate today. Mention changes early so the appointment addresses your current situation.

Have these details ready before contacting the clinic

A short, organised request is easier to act on than a photo with no explanation. Keep the original packaging available and use the clinic’s designated channel for medical information.

  • Medicine name, strength and the instructions you currently follow.
  • Quantity remaining and the date you expect it to run out.
  • Prescribing clinic, last review and next appointment, if known.
  • Any changes, including symptoms, side effects, allergies or other medicines.
  • Any recent results or home readings your treating team asked you to track.

What does a refill request cost at teleconsult.sg?

The published fee is S$5 for a medication refill without consultation, subject to the doctor’s approval. This fee does not guarantee approval, and it is not the total price of the medicine plus delivery. Check with the team whether this route applies to your request.

If a GP consultation is needed, the standard published consultation fee is S$15 nett. Medication and delivery are charged separately. Before confirming arrangements, ask which service fee applies, what the medicine costs and when it can be collected or delivered.

What if you will run out before delivery arrives?

Contact the issuing clinic or pharmacy promptly with the medicine name, remaining quantity and timing. HealthHub suggests pharmacy self-collection or a walk-in for urgent collection needs instead of relying on a distant delivery slot. Check the institution’s arrangements.

If a dose may be missed, ask the treating doctor or pharmacist what to do for that specific medicine. Do not assume an order acknowledgement means medicine has been approved or is already on its way.
